In Columbia, South Carolina, a community was left grieving after a shooting incident claimed the life of 16-year-old Jakobe Fanning, a male student at Eau Claire High School. The tragic event unfolded on Sunday, September 24, 2023, on Saddletrail Road. Fanning, along with three other teenagers, were together when gunfire erupted.
When Richland County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered four individuals with gunshot wounds.
Fanning, along with two other Eau Claire High School students, 17-year-old Dre'Von Riley and 16-year-old Caleb Wise, succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead. A fourth victim, a 14-year-old, was also shot but survived.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led to the swift arrests of three teenage suspects. Authorities took 17-year-old Karlos Damon Gibson and 17-year-old Jakeem Griffin into custody. A third suspect, a 14-year-old, was also apprehended. All three face multiple charges, including three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
