In the pre-dawn hours of August 26, 2023, a night of socializing for 20-year-old Nicholas A. Donofrio, a male student at the University of South Carolina, ended in tragedy on a quiet residential street in Columbia. After an evening out with friends, arrangements were made for an Uber to take the intoxicated sophomore back to his off-campus home on South Holly Street.
