In the early hours of September 11, 2023, the life of 34-year-old Joshua J. Jackson of Conway, South Carolina, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on Shakespeare Road in Columbia. Jackson and another man, 40-year-old Eddie A. Boyd of Sumter, were attending a party when they became the victims of a fatal drive-by shooting. When Richland County sheriff's deputies responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 1 a.m., they discovered both men lying unresponsive on the sidewalk,
bleeding from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were rendered at the scene, but Jackson was pronounced dead. Boyd was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The initial investigation into the double homicide proceeded without immediate arrests, leaving the community searching for answers. McClinton was charged with two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following his arrest, he was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott commented on the tragedy, stating, 'Another example of a young person throwing their life away by the gun. He celebrated his birthday by killing two people.
