On February 25, 2024, Kokayi Millner Livingston, a 35-year-old Black / African American male originally from Wilson, North Carolina, was tragically killed in Columbia, South Carolina. Deputies from the Richland County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at the Carrington Place Apartments, where they discovered Livingston unresponsive in the breezeway of one of the buildings.
He had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, marking the end of a violent series of events targeting him at that specific location.
Investigation revealed that this was not the first time Livingston had been attacked at the apartment complex. Just ten days prior, on February 15, 2024, he had been the victim of another shooting at the same site. During that initial incident, he was struck by gunfire multiple times but managed to survive his injuries. Authorities determined that the violence stemmed from an escalating domestic dispute involving Livingston and the former partner of his current girlfriend.
Law enforcement identified 23-year-old Kesean "Hog" Johnson as the primary suspect in both attacks. Investigators described the situation as a domestic conflict where Johnson, the ex-boyfriend, targeted Livingston, the current boyfriend. following a public appeal for his location by the Sheriff, Johnson turned himself in to authorities on February 27, 2024. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting on February 25, as well as attempted murder for the prior assault on February 15. Additionally, Johnson faces charges for possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
