In the small city of Bennettsville, South Carolina, the life of 44-year-old Derrick Lorenzo 'Tank' Bostic, a Black/African American male, was abruptly cut short on the evening of Saturday, October 15, 2022. Bostic, a man known for his skills in automotive and home repair and the owner of his own tire service, was a beloved figure in his community. He was described as generous and someone who found joy in cooking, fishing, and the company of his family and friends.
The tragic events
unfolded on Jennings Street, where an argument escalated into a double shooting. Responding to a call around 8:30 p.m., Bennettsville Police officers discovered Bostic and another individual with gunshot wounds. Bostic was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital in Florence for medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The second victim of the shooting was reported to be in good condition.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, an investigation was launched by the Bennettsville Police Department, with assistance from the State Law Enforcement Division and the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of a suspect, Juwan Harrison. Harrison was subsequently charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the incident. Following his apprehension in Bennettsville, Harrison was taken into custody and held at the Marlboro County Detention Center to await a bond hearing. Authorities continued to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal altercation and encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
