On September 15, 2024, 23-year-old Qualeeh Gaines of Bennettsville, South Carolina, was fatally shot during a gathering in the Shady Rest community. The incident, which occurred around 12:45 a.m., also resulted in life-threatening injuries to two other individuals, including a 15-year-old student.
Following the shooting, Gaines was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to a single gunshot wound. The Marlboro County Coroner, Tim Brown, confirmed his death.
