Towan Harrington, 18-year-old Black male from the Bennettsville area of Marlboro County, South Carolina, was shot on the evening of January 26, 2026, after what investigators described as an altercation that spiraled into gunfire. Wounded and desperate for help, he ran to the Bennett Pointe Apartments near Cheraw Street/Cheraw Highway, reaching a residence there as neighbors and bystanders realized something terrible had just happened.
He died at the apartment complex, leaving investigators to piece together the moments that led him to that door.
As deputies worked the scene, authorities said the violence didn’t stop with him: bullets also struck a vehicle and an apartment during the incident, a detail that underscored how close the shooting came to claiming more victims. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted with processing the scene, and officials emphasized early on that the case was active and still developing as evidence was gathered and witnesses were sought.
Two arrests followed in the days immediately after the killing. On January 28, 2026, Jeremy Davis Jr. was taken into custody and charged with accessory before the fact of murder. Investigators alleged he was tied to the chain of events leading up to the fatal shooting, with authorities indicating the confrontation involved multiple people and that Davis and others were part of the conflict that culminated in Harrington being shot.
Then, on January 29, 2026, Braylin Wilson surrendered at the Chesterfield County Detention Center and was charged with murder in connection with Harrington’s death. Authorities said Wilson was wanted for the killing and that he was transported back to the Marlboro County Detention Center to await a bond hearing before a circuit court judge, while investigators continued working to clarify roles, motives, and the precise sequence of actions during the altercation.
