Ray Donahue was a man killed on January 6, 1990, in Clinton, Missouri, in what began as an unremarkable stop on the road and turned into a sudden execution. That winter, Robert Wesley Knighton was on the run with two younger companions, Renee Williams and Lawrence Brittain, after fleeing Kansas City in a stolen van, chasing the idea of disappearing into a faraway state while warning them, even then, that the trip could include robberies and maybe murders.
