Do you know who murder Mabel and her husband?\n In the quiet city of Topeka, Kansas, the tranquility of a September day in 2000 was shattered for an elderly Caucasian couple, marking the beginning of a long and painful ordeal. On September 19th of that year, 80-year-old Mabel Aguirre and her 82-year-old husband, Raymond, found their home at 1900 SE Washington tragically transformed into a scene of violence.
An intruder, described as a young Black male in his late teens to early twenties, with a short afro and wearing a red sweater with a white collar, breached the security of their home by slipping through a bathroom window.
Once inside, the suspect confronted the Aguirre couple, demanding money. When they were unable to produce any, the intruder's frustration boiled over into a brutal physical assault. He beat Mabel and Raymond until they both lay unconscious on the floor of their home. After rendering the elderly couple helpless, the assailant ransacked their house, ultimately making off with checks and a gold-plated Seiko watch before disappearing out the back door. The couple remained there, in pools of their own blood, for many hours until they were discovered by their son the following day.
The aftermath of the attack was devastating. While both Mabel and Raymond were initially found alive, Raymond’s injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them on October 14, 2000. Mabel survived the vicious assault, but not without life-altering consequences. The beating left her blind in one eye and with significant difficulty in moving. The crime remains unsolved, and the Topeka Police Department continues to investigate the homicide, aggravated burglary, and aggravated battery. A reward has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the attack on the Aguirre family. No arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
