On July 3, 2015, authorities in rural Buchanan County, near St. Joseph, Missouri, began investigating the double homicide of a married couple found dead in their home. The victims were identified as 72-year-old James Aunon Johnson and his 76-year-old wife, Beverly Ann 'Betty' Johnson. Law enforcement discovered the couple had been fatally shot inside their residence. James Johnson had sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head, while his wife had been shot in the temple.
