On the night of January 24, 2015, tragedy struck a residence in Faucett, Missouri, claiming the life of 36-year-old Andrew Clary, a White male originally from Saint Joseph. Clary, known for his kind nature and history of service in the Marine Corps, was at the home he shared with his girlfriend when the quiet evening was shattered by a violent intrusion.
A vehicle suddenly rammed through the closed garage door of the house, signaling the beginning of a deadly assault.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Daron Simpson, the ex-husband of Clary’s girlfriend, Amanda Simpson. After crashing into the home, Simpson exited the vehicle and made his way to the bedroom where the couple was located. There, he opened fire, shooting both Clary and Amanda Simpson. Clary suffered fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Amanda Simpson survived the attack but sustained severe facial injuries that required hospitalization.
Daron Simpson surrendered to authorities shortly after the shooting and was taken into custody. Prosecutors initially charged him with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, and multiple counts of armed criminal action. The case moved through the legal system for over a year before resolving without a jury trial. On September 12, 2016, Simpson entered an Alford plea to reduced charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault, acknowledging that prosecutors had sufficient evidence to convict him. He was subsequently sentenced to serve 25 years in prison for each count.
