On December 8, 2023, 35-year-old Curtis R. Cruse Jr. was fatally shot in the parking lot of Speedy's gas station at 1310 Riverside Road in St. Joseph, Missouri. The incident occurred during an altercation between Cruse and 25-year-old Nathan L. Keegan. Both individuals arrived at the gas station separately, and the confrontation escalated, leading to Cruse being shot in the back.
