On the afternoon of January 19, 2016, violence erupted near the intersection of 39th Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Responding to the scene around 2:00 p.m., police officers discovered a victim suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The injured man was identified as Walter Lee Gregory, a 40-year-old Black male who was a resident of the city.
