On the early morning of August 6, 2017, a tragedy occurred in south Kansas City involving a young child. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department were summoned to a residence located in the 9600 block of Lydia Avenue around 1:15 a.m. following a call reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, emergency responders found 2-year-old Jedon Edmond Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound inside the apartment.
