On January 13, 2021, police in Kansas City, Missouri, were called to a chaotic scene that would soon reveal a complex web of grief and alleged retaliation. Officers arrived at a parking lot near the intersection of Admiral Boulevard and Virginia Avenue, where they discovered the lifeless body of Keith Dewayne Lars Jr., a 36-year-old Black male.
