On the evening of August 10, 2016, tragedy struck the family of 28-year-old male Craig S. Dydell in Kansas City, Missouri. A fledgling artist known by the stage name 'Chop Suey,' Dydell was a member of the local rap group Bad Habits, which he had formed with his twin brother and friends. The group had built a following in the area performing dance and house music and was scheduled to perform at an event the following weekend.
Just before 7:00 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Olive Street after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered Dydell lying in a grassy area near the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city’s 65th homicide of that year. Family members later revealed that Dydell had been on the phone with his twin brother at the exact moment the shooting occurred. He left behind a one-year-old daughter named Kayla and was remembered by his mother, Jessica Dydell, as a man who had sought to carve out his own identity separate from his twin.
As of late 2016, the investigation into Dydell's death had not yielded any arrests, and homicide detectives had not publicly identified any suspects. The case remained unsolved, leaving his family to plead for the public's assistance. His mother expressed deep frustration with the lack of leads, urging anyone who witnessed the crime to break their silence and come forward with information.
