On the evening of May 26, 2023, tragedy struck near the intersection of 83rd Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, involving 18-year-old African American male Charles Jones. The incident occurred late that Friday night when officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunshots in the area. Upon their arrival just before 10:00 p.m., first responders discovered the teenager suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
