On the night of July 8, 2017, the atmosphere in the parking lot of the Soul Lounge nightclub in Kansas City, Missouri, turned from celebration to tragedy. Dasean J. Davis, a 24-year-old male, had gone out that evening to celebrate his uncle's birthday.
