In a tragic turn of events following a dispute at a local bar, 36-year-old Theus C. Dewberry lost his life on a late Saturday night in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident, which unfolded on November 18, 2023, began with an altercation between several women at a bar. Following this initial conflict, the situation escalated, moving outside and culminating in gunfire.
Witnesses reported that after the fight inside the bar, Dewberry was heard telling the alleged shooter, “Bro, we can’t
be hittin no girls.” Shortly after this exchange, gunshots rang out. Dewberry was seen running from the scene as the suspect allegedly fired several more times. Officers were called to the area of 23rd Street and Lawn Avenue just after 11 p.m., where a large group of people directed them to a nearby vacant home. Behind the residence, they discovered Dewberry, who was barely conscious. He was quickly transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m.
The investigation led police to identify Keylen Madge as the suspect. According to accounts, after the shooting, a woman asked Madge if he had shot Dewberry, to which he reportedly affirmed. The woman then allegedly responded, “Good, now those b****** won’t f*** with me again.” Madge was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the death of Theus C. Dewberry. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
