In a tragic turn of events during a child custody exchange, 34-year-old Devon Nolan, a male resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was fatally shot on February 28, 2020. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of the Kansas City Police Department's Central Patrol station, a location presumably chosen for its perceived safety.
According to reports, Nolan was meeting with 27-year-old Deshonia S. Diamond to exchange their children.
A witness stated that after the children were situated in Nolan's vehicle, he pulled his car alongside Diamond's. It was at this point that Diamond allegedly shot Nolan. Despite his injuries, Nolan managed to stumble towards the police station for help, telling officers that Diamond had shot him with a pink gun before she fled the scene. Inside Nolan's vehicle, police discovered three uninjured children who had witnessed the harrowing event. Nolan was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation that followed led to the swift identification and arrest of Deshonia S. Diamond. Authorities executed a search warrant at an apartment associated with Diamond and recovered a pink and black firearm, consistent with the description provided by Nolan in his final moments. Further examination of Diamond's phone records allegedly uncovered text messages and a recorded conversation in which she had previously threatened to kill Nolan.
Prosecutors in Jackson County have charged Deshonia S. Diamond with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action, and a misdemeanor for failing to report a shooting. She was subsequently jailed on a $100,000 bond. Court records indicate that the case against her is proceeding through the legal system.
