In the late summer of 2019, a dispute between two men in Kansas City, Missouri, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of Marcus Neal. On the evening of August 25th, Neal, a 29-year-old male, and another man, 28-year-old Cartez Seals, were involved in a physical altercation outside the Brush Creek Community Center. The community center was closed at the time, and what began as a confrontation between the two men quickly turned fatal.
As Neal and Seals fought, a handgun reportedly
fell to the ground. A third individual, who had been recording the fight, then retrieved a handgun and opened fire on both men. The gunshots proved fatal for both Neal and Seals. When emergency services arrived at the scene near Cleveland Avenue and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard, they found both men suffering from gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation led to the identification of a suspect. Days later, a 17-year-old named Treshaun Hawkins surrendered to the police, accompanied by his attorney. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in the death of Cartez Seals and armed criminal action. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured the incident, showing the fight and the subsequent shooting. The motive for the initial altercation between Neal and Seals was described as an ongoing feud.
