On the night of December 11, 2018, a twenty-six-year-old male named Dylan Edwin Hill left his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri, around 10:15 p.m. He reportedly told his wife he was going to meet a friend, but his family later came to believe he had been lured into a trap. Approximately thirty minutes after his departure, police officers were dispatched to a dead-end area near East 80th Terrace and James A. Reed Road in southeast Kansas City following reports of gunfire.
Neighbors in the vicinity described hearing the distinct sounds of two different weapons being fired, suggesting multiple shooters might have been involved.
Upon arriving at the scene, investigators discovered Hill inside his blue pickup truck, which was still running. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with reports indicating he was shot as many as five or six times. Tragically, the violence of the attack was evident not only in his injuries but also in the damage to the vehicle, where bullets had struck the car seats belonging to his two young children. Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Hill was declared deceased at the scene.
