In a quiet home in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, the promise of a new future for one family was tragically cut short in a shocking act of violence. On the night of Thursday, February 22, 2018, 15-year-old Kevin Robinson, a male student at Riverview Gardens High School, was shot and killed inside his home on Hoyt Drive. His mother, 31-year-old Katrina Banks, was also found dead from gunshot wounds.
The tragic event unfolded as a murder-suicide, perpetrated by Banks's fiancé, 31-year-old Dornubari Dugbor.
Just a month prior, the family had been celebrating a joyous occasion, with Banks announcing her engagement to Dugbor. However, on that fateful February night, the home became a scene of unimaginable horror. Authorities were alerted to the situation by a chilling 911 call made by Dugbor himself, in which he stated, 'There are three dead bodies at Hoyt Drive, and I need police to respond.' When officers arrived, they found Dugbor deceased on the living room sofa from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, a 9mm pistol still in his lap and the cell phone used to make the call in his hand.
The scene that confronted the police was grim. Katrina Banks was discovered on the living room floor, and her son, Kevin Robinson, was found in the hallway, both victims of fatal gunshot wounds. Miraculously, a 4-year-old girl, the daughter of Banks and Dugbor and Kevin's half-sister, was found physically unharmed in her bedroom, pretending to be asleep. The young girl later told investigators that she had heard a gunshot, and upon entering the living room, she saw her mother on the floor. Her father, Dugbor, instructed her to go back to her room.
The investigation by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis concluded that Dornubari Dugbor shot and killed both Katrina Banks and her son, Kevin Robinson, before taking his own life. Despite the family's recent engagement and no prior reports of domestic violence at the residence, the motive behind the horrific act remains unclear. Police indicated that there was no known history of mental illness for Dugbor, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and senseless loss of a mother and her teenage son.
