On the evening of Friday, March 2, 2018, Kansas City, Missouri police officers were alerted to a violent incident in the city's nascent spring darkness. Reports of gunfire drew law enforcement to the 5100 block of The Paseo, a prominent boulevard cutting through the heart of the metro area. Upon arrival near 51st Street and The Paseo, investigators discovered a crime scene consistent with a shooting, but the victim was no longer present.
