On the night of July 4, 2020, police in Kansas City, Missouri, responded to reports of a shooting in the southern part of the city. Officers arrived at the scene near the intersection of 69th Street and Prospect Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim lying unresponsive on the sidewalk near Prospect Avenue and Gregory Boulevard. The victim was identified as 37-year-old Charles Hampton.
Authorities determined that the shooting likely involved multiple individuals, as two other men arrived at a local hospital shortly after the incident suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators believed these injuries were sustained during the same altercation that claimed Hampton's life.
