Che Jefferson was a 35-year-old male resident of Kansas City, Missouri, known in the community as the owner and operator of Pax Janitorial, a local cleaning service he had founded four years prior. On the morning of January 5, 2022, Jefferson was involved in a fatal incident in the 3500 block of South Benton Avenue. Around 10:30 a.m., Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the residential area following reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, witnesses informed law enforcement that an argument involving several individuals had occurred, escalating until gunfire erupted.
During the altercation, Jefferson sustained gunshot wounds but managed to enter a vehicle and attempt to drive away from the scene. His flight was short-lived as he lost control of the car, traveling south before crashing into a utility pole and striking several parked vehicles in the 3600 block of South Benton. Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported him to a local hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. Initial reports from the hospital indicated he had died shortly after arrival, but this information was later corrected to state he remained in critical condition on life support. Tragically, police confirmed the following day that he had succumbed to his injuries.
