The investigation into Young's death revealed a pre-arranged meeting
that took a fatal turn. What was intended to be a drug transaction escalated into a deadly shooting. Young was found in an abandoned car in St. Joseph, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Though discovered in another city, police determined the fatal shots were fired in Kansas City.
The ensuing homicide investigation led authorities to a suspect, 23-year-old Tyler D. Thompson of Kansas City. Evidence collected at the scene, including spent shell casings, connected Thompson to the crime. He was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of 26 felony counts, among them second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
