On the night of July 9, 2018, tragedy struck in the Fairground neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, when 41-year-old Corey Cole was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. A Black male, Cole was discovered by authorities around 9:00 p.m. lying in a parking lot situated behind an apartment complex on the 3200 block of Bailey Avenue. First responders arrived at the scene to address the emergency, but he had sustained a severe injury to his abdomen that ultimately claimed his life.

investigation into the shooting began immediately as police sought to piece together the events leading up to the violence. Officers canvassed the area near North Grand Boulevard, searching for potential witnesses or surveillance footage that could shed light on the circumstances of the crime. Despite these efforts, the inquiry struggled to yield a clear suspect or a motive for the attack, leaving investigators with limited leads to pursue in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
