On June 1, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m., 32-year-old Derick Conley was found fatally shot in Poelker Park, located across the street from St. Louis City Hall. Responding officers discovered Conley near the Firefighters Memorial with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
