In the early morning hours of April 5, 2025, the life of 34-year-old Bashir Lateef Peebles was tragically cut short on a street corner in Newark, New Jersey. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of South 17th Street and Madison Avenue, where they discovered Peebles suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services rushed him to University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe. Peebles was pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m.
At the time of his death, authorities noted that he did not have a known permanent address.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting. As of now, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and law enforcement officials have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case.
