On the morning of Saturday, October 6, 2018, the quiet routine of the Carondelet neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 6400 block of Idaho Avenue around 9:50 a.m. following reports of a shooting. upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 36-year-old male Jacob Hudson lying in the street, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Hudson was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival, leaving the community and his loved ones grappling with the sudden and violent loss.
Jacob Hudson was a well-known figure in his community, remembered as a hardworking local business owner who operated Hudson's Heating & Cooling. He lived just a few houses down from where he was killed and had spent the previous year meticulously renovating his home. Friends and family described him as a man who was deeply invested in his neighborhood, often helping neighbors with home improvement projects and general maintenance. He was also an animal lover whose two dogs were taken in by the Missouri Humane Society following his untimely death before being released to his grieving family. He left behind a daughter, his parents, and five siblings, all of whom were left with unanswered questions about why such a tragedy had occurred.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators began a search for those responsible, initially appealing to the public for help in identifying two teenage subjects seen in the area. The suspects were described as young males between the ages of 16 and 18. The community was on edge as police released surveillance images in hopes of generating leads.
