Detective Thomas M. Dwyer, a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, tragically lost his life on October 21, 1904, at the age of 34. Detective Dwyer, along with his colleagues Detectives John Shea and James McCluskey, was involved in a fatal shootout while attempting to arrest two armed robbery suspects.
