Callion Barnes, a 29-year-old male, was tragically killed in a double shooting on the night of September 1, 2021. The incident occurred at approximately 11:05 p.m. in the 10000 block of Duke Drive in the Castle Point neighborhood of north St. Louis County. When St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct arrived at the scene, following a ShotSpotter activation, they discovered two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were immediately transported to
nearby hospitals for life-saving measures. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Callion Barnes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second man was reported to be in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Barnes resided on Bridgevale Avenue in St. Louis.
Following an investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons detectives, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. Qwantrell Demonte Powell, 23, of Riverview, was charged in connection with the fatal shooting. The charges filed against Powell included first-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and resisting arrest.
