Daryl Anthony Hall, a 34-year-old male, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Hall, an off-duty St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer, was at the Black Label Nightclub on South Fourth Street when an altercation that began inside the establishment spilled out into the parking lot at approximately 2:30 a.m.
According to witness statements, after patrons involved in the dispute were escorted outside, one individual
retrieved a handgun and began firing. Hearing the gunshots from inside the nightclub, Officer Hall went outside to investigate. Upon observing a suspect firing a weapon, Hall identified himself as a police officer and ordered the man to drop his firearm.
The gunman refused to comply, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the shootout, Officer Hall was struck in the neck and bicep. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Hall had been a member of the St. Louis Police Department for five years at the time of his death.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Asif Blake, was also shot multiple times during the exchange and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators recovered his weapon at the location. While one suspect was killed, reports indicated that a second gunman was involved and remained at large following the incident.
