McDermott, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, was driven approximately one mile to the St.
Louis Police Department's North Patrol Division on Union Boulevard. He was in the driver's seat of the vehicle when it arrived at the station, a passenger having been with him at the time of the shooting.
