Marquise Aldridge, a 23-year-old Black man, was shot and killed on December 11, 2020, in Riverview, Missouri, after police were called to an apartment in the 9800 block of Lilac Drive as evening settled in. Officers arrived around 5:29 p.m. and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds, the scene already shifting from frantic to hushed as first responders tried to make sense of what had happened inside the apartment. Aldridge was pronounced dead at the location.
Investigators later identified Aldridge as a St. Louis resident from the 1300 block of Academy Avenue. Alongside him was an adult woman who had also been shot; she was rushed to a hospital, and early reports said her injuries were not life-threatening. The shooting was treated as a homicide investigation from the start, with the understanding that whatever sparked the violence had unfolded quickly enough to leave two victims in its wake and few immediate answers in public view.
Because the incident occurred within Riverview, the City of Riverview Police Department began the response, but the case soon widened beyond the municipality. Riverview police requested assistance from the St. Louis County Police Department, and the county’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons took the lead, signaling that detectives would be handling witness interviews, evidence collection, and the longer work of reconstructing the moments before the shots. Authorities described the investigation as active and said more information would be released as it became available.
In the initial public reporting and official statements available online, no suspect was identified and no arrest was announced in connection with Aldridge’s killing.
