In the early morning hours of April 24, 2021, authorities in St. Louis, Missouri, responded to a violent scene in the Walnut Park East neighborhood. Just before 2:00 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of Wren Avenue and Bircher Boulevard, where they discovered a vehicle that had become the center of a shooting investigation. Inside the car, they found 24-year-old male Chuwn Curtis, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the arrival of emergency medical services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence at that location extended beyond the vehicle, as police also located two women, aged 27 and 44, who had been shot and were found outside the car. Both surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Curtis, a resident of Jennings, became the primary focus of the homicide investigation as detectives worked to determine the events leading up to the gunfire.
The following day, law enforcement made a breakthrough in the case. On April 25, 2021, St. Louis Metropolitan Police arrested 31-year-old Javon White in connection with the fatal shooting. White, a resident of the Cool Valley area, was taken into custody and subsequently faced a litany of serious allegations. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged him with first-degree murder for the death of Curtis, along with two counts of first-degree assault regarding the two women. Additionally, White was charged with three counts of armed criminal action and one count of resisting arrest. He was ordered held without bond as the legal proceedings commenced.
