In the summer of 2021, a young man's life was abruptly cut short on the streets of St. Louis, Missouri. Jonathan Rubio 'Johnny' Cruz, a 19-year-old Hispanic/Latino male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 19th. The incident unfolded around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Minnesota Avenue, a typically vibrant area in the southern part of the city. Cruz was reportedly sitting in a car outside a local barbershop when the sound of gunfire shattered the evening calm.
