In the early afternoon of March 23, 2017, the life of 23-year-old Anthony Kelly was tragically cut short in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans. Responding to a call of a shooting at approximately 1:21 p.m., police discovered Kelly in the 5000 block of Louisa Drive, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them shortly after arrival.
Anthony was a Black male and a native of New Orleans.
The investigation into the death of Anthony Kelly continued for nearly a year. Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Unit were eventually able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. Based on their findings, an arrest warrant was issued for Jermaine Toussaint.
On January 8, 2018, the search for the suspect came to an end when members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad located and arrested 24-year-old Jermaine Toussaint in the 7800 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Toussaint was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Anthony Kelly.
