On April 14, 2019, 14-year-old male Evione Holts lost his life in a residence located in the Spanish Lake area of St. Louis County, Missouri. Police officers were summoned to a home on the 1700 block of Parktree Lane around 1:25 p.m. regarding a shooting. Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation was handled by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons. While detectives initially treated the death as suspicious, further inquiry determined that the shooting was accidental. It was revealed that the teenager had been handling a firearm inside the home while no adults were present. During this time, he mishandled the weapon, causing it to discharge and inflict the fatal wound.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials focused their efforts on tracing the origin of the firearm to determine how it came into the minor's possession and to whom it belonged. Despite these inquiries, public reports indicated that no arrests were made and no charges were filed in connection with the case. The death was ultimately classified as an accidental self-inflicted shooting, closing the immediate inquiry into foul play.
