On what was meant to be a day of gratitude and fellowship, Thanksgiving of 2019 was tragically cut short for Todd Toston Sr., a 61-year-old male from St. Louis, Missouri. In the early moments of the holiday, just thirty minutes past midnight on November 28th, an argument escalated into fatal violence in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.
The dispute occurred in the 1400 block of Arlington, where Todd Toston Sr.
was engaged in a heated exchange with another man, later identified as 49-year-old Robert Smith. The verbal altercation took a deadly turn when Smith allegedly produced a firearm and shot Toston in the chest. The sound of gunfire shattered the holiday peace, and emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, police officers discovered Toston gravely wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Back at the scene of the shooting, law enforcement took a person of interest into custody.
The investigation swiftly led to charges against Robert Smith. He was formally accused of one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in connection with the death of Todd Toston Sr. Following the charges, Smith was ordered to be held in custody without the possibility of bond as he awaited legal proceedings.
