On the evening of June 30, 2020, 25-year-old Quindell Charles Burrell, a male resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was fatally shot in a city park near 113th Terrace and Ruskin Way. Burrell, known to his loved ones as 'Quinny' or 'Quindelly Dell,' had arranged to meet two brothers for what was reported to be a drug transaction. A witness who accompanied Burrell to the park informed police that she left to go to a store, and upon her return, she discovered Burrell on the ground with a gunshot
wound. First responders were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Burrell's death quickly led police to identify two suspects: brothers Terry L. Williams, then 29, and Tyree L. Williams, then 20. According to court documents, a witness stated Burrell had gone to the park to purchase cocaine from the Williams brothers. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly showed Terry Williams extending his arm in a shooting motion before Burrell fell out of the camera's view. The video also allegedly captured Williams assaulting Burrell as his brother stood nearby.
Later that night, police located the suspects' vehicle, and a pursuit ensued. The chase ended near 109th Terrace and Hickman Mills Drive, where both brothers were taken into custody. During the arrest, one of the brothers was seen throwing several items from the car. Police recovered a gun and bags containing suspected cocaine and THC from the area around the vehicle.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office filed multiple charges against both Terry and Tyree Williams, including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and attempted distribution of a controlled substance. Terry Williams faced an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, while Tyree Williams was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Prosecutors requested a $300,000 cash-only bond for each of them.
