On July 2, 2020, eighteen-year-old Darrell Gott Jr., a resident of Willard, Missouri, was driving in Springfield when he became the victim of a violent incident that ultimately claimed his life. Gott was operating a vehicle that crashed in the vicinity of the shooting. A neighbor who witnessed the aftermath attempted to render aid to the teenager, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

was known to his family and friends as a 'homebody' who enjoyed video games and spending time with his loved ones. At the time of his death, he was an expectant father, looking forward to the birth of his daughter, Evelyn Rosalie, with his girlfriend, Raiona. He was survived by his parents, Darrell Gott Sr. and Jackie Baker, as well as siblings and extended family members who remembered him for his willingness to help others.
Following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and subsequent crash, police identified a suspect. Authorities arrested 19-year-old Kelvin Bogan Jr. in connection with the case. Bogan was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for his alleged role in the death of Darrell Gott Jr.
