The investigation into the death of Casey Reid Gabbard began in the late summer of 2020 in the small community of Maysville, Missouri. Gabbard, a 43-year-old White male known for his history as a childhood state wrestling champion and his work in construction, was at a residence on Highland Street when the incident occurred on August 27, 2020. Local law enforcement was alerted to the scene where Gabbard was found unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders provided immediate medical treatment and transported him to Cameron Regional Medical Center, but he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Detectives with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, launched a homicide inquiry to piece together the events leading to the shooting. The investigation quickly zeroed in on a suspect identified as Brian Graham, a resident of Maysville with reported ties to the nearby areas of Cameron and St. Joseph. Authorities believed Graham had fled the scene, prompting a search for him and his vehicle, a silver or gray 2010 Lincoln MKZ.
On August 28, 2020, the day following the shooting, prosecutors filed formal charges against Graham. An arrest warrant was issued charging him with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Law enforcement publicly identified him as armed and dangerous during the manhunt, urging the public to report any sightings. Reports from local news outlets subsequently indicated that the suspect was taken into custody to face the allegations related to Gabbard's death.
