In the quiet woods of Shannon County, Missouri, a young man's life was tragically cut short on the evening of August 8, 2020. Allen Chance Brewer, a 26-year-old male from Eminence, was found lying on E Highway with multiple gunshot wounds. A passerby discovered him and called for help, with another individual attempting to render aid until emergency services arrived. Despite their efforts, Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a road rage incident. Witnesses reported seeing a Toyota pickup truck leaving the area, a vehicle that had been spotted in Eminence earlier. This lead brought law enforcement to the home of Daymond C. Reeves, a 21-year-old from Mountain View. Two days after the fatal shooting, Reeves and his wife were taken into custody. A search of Reeves's truck uncovered shell casings that matched those found at the scene of the crime.
According to the account provided by Reeves's wife, the deadly encounter began after they passed a slow-moving truck driven by Brewer. Brewer's truck then accelerated and began following them closely. Reeves pulled over, expecting the other truck to pass, but it stopped behind them. An argument ensued between the two men, escalating to the point where Reeves, armed with a 9mm pistol, fired at least 15 shots, striking Brewer seven times in the face, neck, chest, and back. After the shooting, Reeves and his wife fled the scene.
Daymond C. Reeves was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. During his trial, he claimed self-defense. However, under cross-examination, he admitted that he did not need to shoot Brewer and that his intent was to kill him. On December 2, 2022, a Reynolds County jury found Reeves guilty on both counts. Subsequently, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder and an additional fifteen years for armed criminal action.
