On May 3, 2021, police in St. Louis, Missouri, responded to a call in the Tower Grove South neighborhood regarding a shooting. Upon arrival at the 4300 block of Tholozan Avenue, officers discovered the body of 36-year-old Eric Gardner. Authorities identified the victim as a resident of the same block where he was found.
Gardner had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The St.
Louis Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the incident, which added to the city's list of violent crimes for that year. Family and friends later held a service for him at Serenity Memorial Chapel on Union Boulevard.
As of early 2022, the St. Louis homicide tracker and local reports indicated that the investigation into Gardner's death remained ongoing. Unlike other cases from the same period where suspects were quickly identified and charged, public records did not list any immediate arrests or named suspects in connection with Gardner's shooting at that time.
