In a heartbreaking turn of events on a Monday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri, 1-year-old Tyron Payton lost his life in a senseless act of violence. The young male was seated in the back of a parked car in the 2900 block of East 33rd Street when an individual approached and opened fire on the vehicle. The gunfire struck the child, as well as his parents who were in the front seats.
A fourth adult in the car was physically unharmed.
Following the horrific shooting on September 21, 2020, the driver, despite being injured, managed to speed away from the scene and drive to a nearby fire station at 32nd and Indiana to seek immediate help. Firefighters and paramedics rendered aid to the three victims before they were all transported to a local hospital. Tragically, Tyron succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, marking him as Kansas City's youngest homicide victim of that year. His parents were hospitalized in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was stationary in front of a residence when the shooter unleashed a barrage of bullets into it. This was not considered a drive-by shooting. As of September 2022, no arrests had been made in the case, and the police continued to ask for the public's help, with a significant reward offered for information leading to an arrest.
