In the spring of 2021, the life of Antonio T. Green Jr., a 24-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in the Spanish Lake area of St. Louis County, Missouri. On the night of April 20, 2021, police responded to a call for a shooting in the 1100 block of Scott Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Green inside a car in a driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of April 21, 2021.
The investigation into Green's death quickly pointed to Christopher Bolden, a 30-year-old man from St. Louis. The motive for the shooting was determined to be a personal dispute, as Green was dating Bolden's ex-girlfriend, with whom Bolden had two children. In the time leading up to the fatal incident, Bolden had reportedly attempted to contact his ex-girlfriend over 100 times through phone calls and text messages. His escalating behavior culminated in him driving to her home, where he found Green.
According to the ex-girlfriend's account to the police, Bolden parked his car, approached the vehicle where she was in the driver's seat and Green was a passenger, and opened the rear driver's side door. Bolden then uttered a chilling phrase before firing three shots at Green. After the shooting, he briefly threatened his ex-girlfriend before she managed to flee into the house. A witness provided a description of the car Bolden fled in, which was captured on video surveillance and later confirmed to be a rental in his name. Bolden was apprehended in Montgomery County, Illinois, while in the same vehicle and was subsequently extradited to Missouri.
Initially charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use and possession of a firearm, Christopher Bolden's case went to trial. In May 2023, a St. Louis County jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. On August 25, 2023, Bolden was sentenced to life in prison, with an additional 15 years to be served consecutively. During the court proceedings, Green's family had the opportunity to share emotional testimonies about the profound impact of their loss.
