On the morning of June 28, 2020, police officers in Saint Louis, Missouri, were called to a gruesome scene in the Walnut Park neighborhood. In an alleyway within the 5900 block of Emma Avenue, situated near the border of Walnut Park West and Walnut Park East, authorities discovered the remains of a human body that had been severely burned. The condition of the remains initially made identification difficult, but approximately one week later, the victim was identified as 47-year-old Antirrill
Johnson.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation that spanned over a year, piecing together the events that led to Johnson's death. According to witness statements gathered by police, Johnson had been shot by an assailant who then loaded his body into a vehicle. The perpetrator allegedly drove the victim to the alley on Emma Avenue, where the body was set on fire in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence. Forensic technicians eventually found physical evidence corroborating these accounts, including traces of the victim's blood on a vehicle linked to the suspect.
In August 2021, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office formally issued charges against 34-year-old Brandon Taylor in connection with the case. Taylor faced charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and abandonment of a corpse. Investigators revealed that video surveillance placed Taylor's vehicle in the area where the body was recovered. At the time the warrant was issued, Taylor was already being held in federal custody on unrelated charges.
