On the afternoon of Saturday, February 25, 2017, police officers in St. Louis, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence in the 4300 block of Obear Avenue in the northern part of the city. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders discovered the body of Larry D. Barnes, a 51-year-old African-American male, who was suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
Authorities declared him dead at the location, marking a violent end to a domestic dispute that had escalated within the home.
The investigation immediately focused on a suspect present at the scene, identified as Antwain Hyche-El, the victim's younger brother. According to law enforcement reports, the two men had become embroiled in a heated argument regarding household duties. The verbal altercation intensified until Hyche-El retrieved a firearm and shot his sibling. Following the shooting, prosecutors charged Hyche-El with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and he was initially held without bond. Consequently, a judge sentenced him to serve ten years in prison for his role in the death.
